UNDERSTAND SPOKEN ENGLISH

61 Common English words, grammar words, have strong / weak forms.
The weak forms are used most often.
Strong forms at the beginning and end of a sentence or word group are frequently used, but not always. When pronounced in isolation or for emphasis.
Teachers tend to teach strong forms; this is one of the reasons why many people do not understand spoken English.

Foreigners often do not understand native speakers connected speech because they do not hear the strong forms they have been taught.
